Methods

Extremes:
If one wants to know the effect of the change of one property on another, say the effect of the amount of food on average weight, a useful method is that of taking the extremes: take the case of zero, and/or very much (infinite). In the case of weight: no food leads to death, i.e. zero weight. And an average amount of food leads to an average weight. So one might guess that the amount of food determines the weight. Of course, this method gives just an indication, because the food example learns that the kind of food also counts.
