The world of abstractions

Abstraction level 1

From the group of flat objects having five corners or sides, a common property is distilled.

The common property of all objects with five corners or sides is abbreviated to an abstraction called "pentagon". This abstract pentagon can, if desired, given all of the specific properties of the individual objects, so this pentagon stands for any of the real objects. This abstract pentagon itself is of course an non-real, non-existing, one, which is here denoted by putting it inside a circle, and by removing aspects like color. The pentagon is an abstraction of level 1, an abstraction derived directly from real objects.

The world of abstractions

Abstraction level 1

From the group of flat objects having four corners or sides, a common property is distilled.

The common property of all objects with four corners or sides is abbreviated to an abstraction called "quadrangle". This abstract quadrangle can, if desired, given all of the specific properties of the individual objects, so this quadrangle stands for any of the real objects. This abstract quandrangle itself is of course an non-real, non-existing, one, which is here denoted by putting it inside a circle, and by removing aspects like color. The quadrangle is an abstraction of level 1, an abstraction derived directly from real objects.

The world of abstractions

Abstraction level 1

From the group of flat objects having three corners or sides, a common property is distilled.

The common property of all objects with three corners or sides is abbreviated to an abstraction called "triangle". This abstract triangle can, if desired, given all of the specific properties of the individual objects, so this triangle stands for any of the real objects. This abstract triangle itself is of course an non-real, non-existing, one, which is here denoted by putting it inside a circle, and by removing aspects like color. The triangle is an abstraction of level 1, an abstraction derived directly from real objects.

The world of abstractions

Aggregate 1 of abstractions of level 1

Method: The grouping of all flat abstractions consistent of straight lines and having of three or more corners.

The abstract triangle, quadrangle, pentagon, etcetera can in itself also be seen as individuals, for which one can try to find common properties.

The world of abstractions

Abstraction level 2

De gemeenschappelijk eigenschappen van driehoek, vierhoek, vijfhoek, enzovoort wordt samengevat tot de nieuwe abstractie “veelhoek”. Dit is een abstractie van het tweede niveau: een abstractie van abstracties

The common properties of triangle, quadrangle, pentagon, etcetera are abbreviated into an new abstraction called "polygon". This an abstraction of level 2, an abstraction made out of abstractions of level 1.
